I'll echo a previous commenter - congrats on retirement! I can tell you from the far side of leaving EMS that two of the best decisions I ever made were getting into the field - and leaving the field. I left when I realized that I had two ways of being of service that I loved - and one had risen above the other: paramedicine and yoga. I had postponed my ACLS recert so long that I missed all the company-sponsored (free) classes and had to pay for the privilege. It was the same weekend and cost as a trauma-informed yoga course I wanted to take. I realized I would rather have done the latter and that was my cue, I started planning my exit 6 months later. Sometimes we have enough good options we have the privilege of choosing the best for that time of our lives. Had I not met my husband, I'd probably still be on weekend nights. I don't regret my regrets, but I do carry their wisdom close. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and a tremendously well crafted read.
